Vancouver Water Damage Prevention

Water Damage Prevention Vancouver

It’s every Vancouver homeowner’s nightmare to come home after an amazing vacation to find that their home has been progressively destroyed by preventable water damage the entire time while they have been away. Even a small leak can cause tens of thousands of dollars in damages. As you know, heavy rainfall is common place here in Vancouver, so a water tight roof is very important. Water damage is one of the top reasons for a home insurance claim. A small leak can turn into a very large insurance claim when the home is left unattended to for an extended period of time, such as a vacation.  Most sources of water damage can be prevented by checking a number of things before leaving your home for vacation.

Here are some tips to ensure that you have peace of mind on your home while you’re away enjoying your holidays and that you come back to find your home in perfect condition just as you had left it:

  1. Check around the house for any existing leaks and have them repaired immediately. Places to check may include your roof, sinks, hose faucets, bath tubs, showers and piping. Look for signs of moisture where there should not be any.
  2. Potentially shut off the water main to your home. If you prefer not to do that, consider turning off the water valves to all the sinks, toilets and baths in your home. Be sure to check the valves for leaks after you turn them off, as adjusting the valves can trigger leaking.
  3. If your property has a well, you may want to shut the pump of.
  4. Be sure that your gutters and downspouts are completely clear of any debris or blockages to ensure that rainfall can drain off of your home properly.
  5. If you plan on being away during colder times in Vancouver, ensure that your home’s heating system is working properly. It is important to winterize and your exterior hose valves and drain the pipes to prevent your pipes from bursting. A pipe bursting that goes unattended can cause major damage to a home.
  6. Have a friend or family member check on the house occasionally to make sure there are no leaks. Brief this person on how to shut off the water main and other water valves just in case there is any trouble.

In the unfortunate case that water damage has occurred while people have been away on vacation, it is important to check for mold growth if areas have been exposed to moisture in as little as 24 to 48 hours. Areas that are more susceptible to mold growth include dry wall, furniture, any belongings made out of organic material like cloth, paper, wood, etc. If the source of water is from an outside source like a sewer or rain water, the water could contain mold, chemicals, bacteria and viruses. Find the source of water and act appropriately.

Richmond Restroom Renovation

Richmond restroom renovation before

richmond restroom renovation after

Top To Bottom Construction transformed this 30 year old powder room to today’s modern look.

We first removed the old popcorn ceiling and run wires above so we could accommodate LED pot lights making the room more brighter, and energy efficient.

The homeowner wanted more cabinet space so we added self closing cabinets, drawers and a pantry to accommodate their belongings.

Instead of the old 70’s arborite countertop, we replaced it with the new modern looking durable quartz counter top.

Lastly, we added wainscoting and crown mouldings to make the room more cozy!

Vancouver West Carpet Removal

carpet underlay living room

living room hard wood floor completed

Top To Bottom Construction was called out to make this Vancouver West home livable for a new young family.

Removing the carpet was their main concern because they wanted to restore their existing natural solid hardwood flooring beneath the carpet. The carpet a large area of the home from the living room and foyer area downstairs to the hallway upstairs, including the staircase.

Baseboard was also added to cover the joint surface between the wall and the floor, giving it a nice architectural feature and preventing furniture from damaging the walls.
The carpet was promptly removed and disposed, revealing the existing hardwood floor beneath.

The baseboards finished the look and the new family was happy with the work now that their new home was ready to be moved into.

Sun Deck Restoration in Richmond

home-restoration-covered-patio_11

home-restoration-covered-patio_12

Top To Bottom Construction was called out to transform this homeowner’s sun deck into a workout room.

There were many problems with the current covered deck.

Originally they had carpet that was molding and rotting from the underlay.  Moisture and rain was coming in from two openings on either side of the window in the middle.

All the carpet and mold was removed and cleaned up.  The flooring was rejuvenated with a fresh coat of grey paint and an added slip-resistant finish to it, which works well for a workout room.

To cover up the two openings, preventing any further mold and rot, TTBC added two windows to fully enclose the deck.

The interior and exterior walls were repainted a clean white.

New gutters were added to properly direct rainfall, extending the longevity of the exterior wall and paint.

Exterior Skylight Restoration

Before

After

This homeowner had the leak on going in the skylight above the home’s front entrance door for about 3 years.

As you can see from the before pictures, the wood was already rotting and mold started to build inside. It may seem to be a small matter but it had to be addressed asap or else the water could have gone through the exterior walls and potentially make it through the drywall inside causing more damages.

The team at Top To Bottom Construction sealed the primary source of the water where it was coming from and restored the rotten/moldy wood.

The homeowner was pleased with TTBC and also had us shift the domed skylight forward to provide coverage for their front entrance.

With the leak fixed and the skylight restored, everything now looks and functions as good as new.

Welcome to [Drawing Thread #5]! On your left you will see some arrows, on your right the sidebar

Let's make a Millionaire! Do your part here and make someone's day by giving the beneficiary just a single $1: https://www.reddit.com/r/millionairemakers/comments/30f4y7/thank_you_millionaire_makers/

DRAWING UPDATE HERE: https://www.reddit.com/r/millionairemakers/comments/30bzbk/the_grand_decision_time_to_make_a_millionaire/

Donation thread will be delayed for tomorrow.

LIVESTREAM PICKING: http://www.twitch.tv/nightvisionhawk

NEW LINK: https://www.bitgamer.tv/u/?NightVisionHawk

UPDATE: The drawing period is now over and the thread is locked! Thank you for entering. Please make sure to come back later today for the livestream where we pick the winner. Now, to make this all possible for another draw, we need each and every one of you to do your part and donate at least a single dollar after the winner is confirmed and contacted. We can do this together Reddit, and we need everyone's help!

What is this, anyway?

Four months ago, a redditor posted an idea in /r/Showerthoughts that speculated the fact that If a million of us picked a certain redditor and all donated just $1, we would have the power to make someone a millionaire.

We are now an embodiment of that showerthought, and this is our next attempt to make it happen. Our goal is for all of us, including you, although not required to enter, to give and put a smile on someone's face in the next few days. Now how does it work? Look below.

How to enter:

  • Leave one (1) top level comment in reply to this thread! Replying to other comments will not count. We highly recommend commenting "RemindMe! 2 days Donation for /r/millionairemakers", this will remind you via PM to donate. Donations are made directly to the winner after being randomly picked and confirmed as eligible.

Important Rules:

  • Only ONE top level (not a reply) comment per person, but feel free to reply to other comments. Making duplicate top level comments may result in exclusion from entering. Go to /u/me to ensure you don't accidentally double comment. Delete any extra duplicates ASAP.

  • Your account must be older than 30 days with some amount of activity. Obvious throwaway accounts with very minimal activity will also not be eligible. This is to prevent multiple entries from the same person.

How will the winner be picked and how can you donate?

  • After 24 hours this thread will close and the method of selection will begin.
  • The method can be read in detail here
  • Method TL;DR: we assign number by sorting the comments by old, so the first commenter will be 1. We then wait for a randomly generated block (a string of numbers) from Bitcoin's blockchain, and calculate the winner using the formula described in the post mentioned above.
  • The user who created the winning comment will be informed of their luck and will provide any information necessary for the chosen payment method (mods will help set this up if needed).
  • The generous Reddit community donates to this lucky person, hopefully making some worthy soul a millionaire!
  • The lucky redditor posts a thank you within the next days, revealing to the community exactly how much was raised and thanking the community for their generosity.

Reminders

  • Take the time you have available now to setup your PayPal account and/or cryptocurrency wallets. For Bitcoin you can use Circle for instant credit card purchases or Coinbase for purchases using your bank account.
  • Please try your best to donate a $1, no matter who wins. Every single dollar, cent, anything really counts, so please take the effort to remember and go through with it.
  • If you want to be reminded to donate, please comment "RemindMe! 2 days Donation for /r/millionairemakers" or checkout our IFTTT recipes.
  • Spread the word! The more people who participate, the better this gets for everyone! There has been a cool correlation between were we made it it in /r/all and donations.
  • Try to cross-post this post to relevant subs. (Please don't spam other subs though. We're not trying to make any enemies here)
  • If you are under 18, please talk to your parents to get their consent before participating and use their help to setup a PayPal account. We expect that the winner already has permission to use these services from their parents before winning so that they may have a way to receive donations.

At this point, Reddit, it's all up to you. Make us proud. Change the world. Prove the internet can do good.

Advice:

  • If the community doesn't like you, even if you win, nobody will donate. So don't be a jerk.

MOST IMPORTANTLY

Remember, this is about generosity, about making history, and about coming together to make someone's life better. So take 3 minutes to donate a bit to the winner, whether you're well off and want to donate a few bucks, or going through tough times and can only donate a few cents. Every cent counts.

Note about legality: This is NOT a lottery. We describe it as an Unincorporated Nonprofit Association. You don't have to pay to enter. Also, WE are not giving any prizes away (the moderators will never even touch your donations). As for gift taxes, according to the IRS they're generally paid by the donor, and any donation under $14,000 is not taxable.

Think of what you could do with $1,000,000... You could pay off student loans, have lifesaving surgery, or even give $1 to a million people!

So Reddit, thanks for sticking with us through that long post. It's finally time to change a life. Help us to the front page, so we can make history, and...

Laminate Wood Flooring Installation

wood-flooring-installation_01

wood-flooring-installation_02

This homeowner had carpet throughout the second floor of his house and wanted to replace the carpet with laminate wood flooring for a warmer and cleaner look that is also easier to maintain. All the old carpet was pulled up and disposed of. The new flooring was installed with new baseboards and finished promptly after to minimize any disturbance to the home owner’s daily activities. The homeowners were very pleased with our work and had this to say as a testimonial:

“From start to finish we were very impressed with how Matthew and his team quickly completed the installation of our new laminate floor throughout the upstairs of our home. They worked effectively and efficiently to complete the job in half the time we had anticipated. Once done, they cleaned everything up, returned the furniture and left with everything looking AMAZING! We would definitely recommend Top to Bottom Construction and would welcome them back to our home for future renovation projects.
Thanks for a job well done guys, and for the handyman repairs to our door and hardware– for free :)”
